The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
